Minnesota Public Radio LRT Vibration - Saint Paul, Minnesota

Noise and Vibration Control

Location:

Saint Paul, Minnesota

Client:

Minnesota Public Radio

General Contractor:

Metropolitan Council

Minnesota Public Radio’s downtown studios and offices are located on the Central Corridor LRT line in St. Paul. Their building houses recording studios for radio and music performances that were required to be exceptionally still and quiet both during construction and during operation of the train. Specially designed isolated tracks, as well as several building noise mitigation systems, were installed by the LRT contractor to maintain the building’s important function of delivering world-class broadcast radio and music productions. MPR relied on ESI’s experience to advise, review designs, and measure performance of these mitigation systems.

ESI's extensive measurement capabilities and engineering expertise with vibration solutions helped identify potential problems early in the design. Performance of installed vibration control solutions were carefully reviewed at multiple steps in the construction process to keep the owner informed.

“Your knowledge and input was critical in our negotiations with LRT staff as we negotiated vibration mitigation solutions. We are satisfied with the results and can only point to you as having gotten us to this end.” – Minnesota Public Radio
