600 Ton Press Foundation - The Toro Company

Structural Design & Analysis

Location:

Shakopee, Minnesota

Client:

The Toro Company

General Contractor:

Ryan Companies US, Inc.

The Toro Company recently installed a new Minster 600-ton punch press at their factory in Shakopee, Minnesota. ESI provided structural engineering services for a 30’ long x 18′-8″ wide x 6′-6″ deep foundation pit with a 225 ton reinforced concrete reaction mass structure to react the force of the press.

The scope of work included planning, vibration measurements, dynamic analysis, design calculations, contract documents, specifications, and coordination with the construction contractor and geotechnical engineer. Design included four wells for large tie rods used to stack the press.

Reaction masses are an important part of the manufacturing facility. Low vibration levels help ensure operator health and safe operation of expensive machinery and equipment.
